Welcome to CANstruction® Halton
Green Propeller Design is thrilled to be hosting the first ever Canstruction® event in Halton! On November 20, 2020, architects, builders, designers, engineers and a host of construction industry companies across Halton will compete to build impressive and creative structures out of food cans. This will be a fun event for us all to put on our creative hats and build our contribution to our community food banks.
What is CANstruction®
“Canstruction® is an international hunger relief charity that raises millions of pounds of food each year for local food banks through our unique design/build Competitions using full cans of food. Founded in 1992, Canstruction events are held in North America, Australia, Europe, Asia and South America.”
On November 20, 2020, the construction industry across Halton will participate in the “remote” Canstruction building event. Each company will be responsible for collecting canned food, developing an innovative structural idea that follows the theme of Building Green, and assembling a team of 5 builders from their workplace to help bring their idea to life.
On the day of the event, each team will have 12 hours to build their can structure within the safety of their own workplace. Once complete, each team must post a photo of their structure to social media using the hashtag #CANstructionHalton and tagging Green Propeller Design (@green_propeller_design) and Canstruction (@canstruction).
Our team of judges will then review each submission and decide on the award winners. Following the event, each company will be responsible for donating their canned food to one of our partnering food banks.
In this challenging time, our communities need our help now more than ever. Take this opportunity to give back and have a fun and creative time while doing so!

Partnering Food Banks
Green Propeller Design is thrilled to be partnering with three of Halton’s most prominent food banks.
The Burlington Food Bank has been feeding Burlington families since 1991 and currently feed approximately 400 households each month equal to approximately 1000 individuals. We provide non-perishable food, personal hygiene products and perishable food such as fresh produce, dairy products, bread and frozen proteins. We not only feed people but provide an atmosphere of dignity and respect to any Burlington resident that needs our assistance. Finally, we also support a number of other local agencies in supporting their clients through food supply and household items.
Since 1996, the Georgetown Bread Basket has been providing food and other resources to Georgetown residents in need. GBB is a fully accredited member of Feed Ontario and Food Banks Canada. Our team of over 130 registered volunteers sort donated food, stock our shelves, maintain the facility, assist GBB clients, shop for perishable food items, pick-up weekly food donations and help with special events. Monthly, we serve about 165 families and give out about 17000 lb. of food. We are 100% volunteer-driven, allowing GBB to use the majority of all financial donations to support our community’s needs for food. The Georgetown Breadbasket’s success is totally dependent on your compassion and generosity.
Located in Milton, Khi is a place of relationships. A community of people growing together towards a relationship with God and meaningful relationships with each other. It’s church—but it’s more than an hour on a Sunday morning. It’s a way of living together and supporting one another in everyday life that reflects a love that can only come from God. Our food bank serves the areas of Milton and Cambellville. More than 300 families a month are registered with our food bank, which currently functions as a drive-thru set up in the back of our building.
