Green Propeller Design provides leading edge solutions for planning, design, and construction of the built environment. Together, with our team of professional engineers, we provide architectural services, both creative and technical, for the commercial, residential, municipal and community, institutional and non-profit sectors. Each assignment focuses on a direct response to both the client’s vision and all environmental considerations.

Focus on our Seniors

The care and well-being of the housed aging community is an urgent social matter and both a passion and specialty at Green Propeller Design.
Our knowledge and expertise encompass Long-Term Care Facilities, Senior’s Housing and Group and Transitional Homes.

This experience ensures that our designs will improve the residents’ accessibility, safety and comfort, while respecting the personal and functional needs of staff.

Learning from Covid-19

Green Propeller Design’s passion for improving the quality of life for the elderly has led us to closely monitor the impact of COVID-19 on Long-Term Care Facilities. Based on our research we believe there are several improvements that can be done to mitigate future outbreaks:
Reduce the number of beds per room
Provide private washrooms
Reduce the size of resident home areas
Provide common areas large enough to facilitate social distancing
Provide smaller gathering areas for groups

Accessibility

Inclusivity is of great importance in creating better communities, which
Architects directly address through careful consideration of accessible
design, including but not limited to, the use of contrasting colour finishes, textured/tactile finishes, or creating barrier-free accessible spaces.

Green Propeller Design has experience in creating accessible
environments that reflect not only the Ontario Building Code (OBC), but
also the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and the
Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR).

We have dealt with the hardware and ergonomic requirements to meet
AODA, OBC and Accessibility Guidelines on numerous projects.

Specialized Expertise

Our firm is familiar with the challenges facing the aging population – from loss of mobility, hearing and balance to visual acuity. We take care to design environments that are safer and more comfortable for the residents by minimizing background noise, providing visual cues for navigating unfamiliar surroundings and avoiding injury.

We are familiar with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) related to construction contaminants and the level of protection required for a
specific project. From containment barriers and HEPA filters, to walk-off mats and negative pressure, we will include provisions to keep your
residents and staff safe.

Specialized Service

Green Propeller Design can offer VR (Virtual Reality) and realistic renderings to give you a better spatial and textural awareness of how the built-space will function and how it will look in your environment.

Project Experience

In addition to working on new facilities, our team has undertaken
specialized renovations touching on many aspects of a Long-Term Care
Facility. We view each upgrade project as an opportunity to improve the
facility and the quality of experience for the residents and staff. Our team
has completed projects focusing on:
• Creating safe environments
• Improving physical standards
• Achieving environmental comfort
• Accessibility upgrades to washrooms and entrances
• Creating home-like atmospheres
• Infection control
• Reducing maintenance issues
