Kingsdale Community Centre

Jointly with the City of Kitchener and Monteith Brown Planning Consultants, Green Propeller design worked to build a business case showing the need for a new and permanent Community Centre in the Kingsdale Community.

Various public meetings were held with local residents and community members to collect public input and share ideas and thoughts about this neighbourhood's needs to be used when building the business case for a new, permanent centre.

The business case took into account the current programming and space requirements in the Kingsdale community, the limitations of existing facility space in the development of the community, projected trends/needs for the next 15 years in order to determine the long term facility, resource and non-facility needs of the community, and possible partnership opportunities for meeting identified and projected needs.

Against a background of statistical data for this community, and comparison with other studies, the specific social needs and recreation opportunities for Kingsdale were translated into a functional program for a new community centre.

An existing arena on the site was also explored as an opportunity for adaptive re-use, and this subsequently formed the basis for construction.
