YMCA Collingwood

The Collingwood YMCA was built in 1984, and has been a central community fitness and social gathering place in Collingwood since that time. The YMCA as an organization has evolved significantly in the past two decades, as have the expectations of members and the programs offered.

This project responds to the ongoing member demand for fitness facilities, but also introduces a new partner into the service delivery model. Children’s Treatment Network offers professional rehabilitation and other support services to children, teens, and their families. This new partnership creates synergies in the YMCA’s philosophy about community building and helping people reach their potential.

Many of the building systems are now more than 20 years old, and are being upgraded in the renovation process. New building systems include steel frame, rain screen exterior cladding system, minimizing on-site labour and speeding the construction time. Composite panels were used as the exterior cladding panels, and coloured glass in the children's room; contrasting the feel of wood with galvanized steel canopy elements. Interior finishes were selected with ease of maintenance in mind.

Services included all design and construction disciplines; plus site plan approval and cost estimating.
