The building is a hub within the Oak Ridges Park System. Close to parking area, splash pad, playgrounds and waterfront trail, the building is designed for heavy-duty use. Providing a meeting point and shade, the building fits into the context of the park as a backdrop, not calling attention to itself.
Built to the most recent standards for accessibility, all the materials, finishes, and systems are durable and energy efficient.
Low impact design played an important part through the design of the park and built amenities. A key sustainable feature of the pavilion is the inclusion of a wetland green roof, which promotes and propagates native wetland species through emulating their ideal environment. The location of the building within the park makes it a supportive backdrop to the park plaza activity spaces.
